The Fastest Path to Purpose #170

I think we’ve been sold a lie.

The lie is that your passion and the problem you solve have to be the same thing from day one.

That somehow, if they don’t perfectly overlap, you’re doing it wrong.

But that’s just not how it works in real life.

And honestly, if you’re waiting for everything to line up before you start, you’re probably delaying the very thing that will eventually give you clarity.

The Fastest Path to Cash Has Nothing to Do With Passion

When I first started my speaking career, I wasn’t chasing some big, heartfelt calling.

I was trying to solve a problem…

I was 20 years old, competing in the World Championship of Public Speaking, and I had a realization: I wasn’t funny.

At all.

So I spent 18 months studying the psychology of laughter and humor.

That became the first thing people paid me for, teaching them how to be funnier.

Later on that led to me providing sales training.

Why?

Because I had gone door to door for five summers, working 14-hour days on straight commission.

I had learned sales the hard way.

That was a problem I could solve.

I tell you this to make a point: People don’t pay for passion.

They pay for solutions.

If you aren’t making money from your personal brand, it’s not because you lack passion.

It’s because you’re not clearly solving a specific problem.

Clarity Is the Real Currency

This applies to everyone.

An electrician apprentice trying to get hired.
An entrepreneur scaling a business.
A parent trying to show up better for their family.

If you don’t have the results you want, it usually comes back to one thing: lack of clarity.

  1. What problem do you solve?
  1. Who do you solve it for?
  1. Can you clearly communicate that?

At Brand Builders Group, this is one of the first places we start with personal brands.

Clarity creates trust.

Trust creates opportunity.

It’s not the sexiest place to start, but we start here because it works.

You Make a Living From Problems But a Life From Passion

If all you ever do is make money, you’ll eventually burn out.

Money is a great starting point — you need it to pay the bills — but it’s not the finish line.

You make a living from the problem you solve.

But you make a life from the passion you chase.

And your passion shows up in deeper places:

  • What breaks your heart?
  • What makes you angry?
  • What injustice are you unwilling to accept?

We believe that’s not accidental.

What breaks your heart breaks it for a reason.

You were designed to do something about that problem...even if it’s not the thing that pays you at first.

The Convergence Comes Later (As Long As You Keep Moving)

Almost no one starts with perfect alignment.

You start by solving a tactical problem.

You build momentum. You earn trust.

And over time, your passion and your profession begin to converge.

That’s when the real magic happens.

If you’re feeling stuck right now, it may not be because you’re on the wrong path, it may just be because you haven’t walked far enough down the right one yet.

And if you want help getting clear on what problem you should own, how to communicate it, and how to build a brand around it, that’s exactly the kind of conversation we have every day at Brand Builders Group.

Sometimes clarity is only one conversation away.

Book a free brand call and let’s get you some clarity.

Personal Branding Isn’t Optional #169

One of the biggest questions I get is, “Who actually needs a personal brand?”  Most people hear the term personal brand and think of influencers, social media, podcasts, books, courses, or memberships.
