Results x Reach = Reputation #195

Two people can have similar results and completely different opportunities.

That is one of the hardest truths about personal branding.

You can be talented.

You can be proven.

You can have done meaningful work.

But if very few people know about it, your reputation stays smaller than your results.

At Brand Builders Group, we define personal branding as the formalization, digitization, monetization, and multiplication of your reputation.

That word matters: reputation.

Personal branding is not about pretending to be famous.

It is about taking what you have earned through real work and making it easier for the world to see, remember, and trust.

The Reputation Formula

Here is the framework:

Results x Reach = Reputation

Your results are the proof.

Your reach is how far that proof travels.

If you have big positive results and big reach, you create a strong positive reputation.

Mother Teresa is an obvious example.

She spent her life fighting poverty, serving the poor, and helping people in need.

Big results.

Worldwide reach.

Massive positive reputation.

The formula can also work negatively.

A person can create massive harm, and if that harm reaches the world, the result is a huge negative reputation.

Reach is a multiplier.

It magnifies whatever is there.

The uncomfortable truth about reach

Most experts want results to be enough.

I understand that.

You want the work to speak for itself.

You want the best ideas, the best service, the best outcomes, and the deepest expertise to rise to the top.

But that is not always how the marketplace works.

The marketplace rewards what it can see, understand, remember, and repeat.

That means reach matters.

A great example is Michael Phelps and Jenny Thompson.

Both were extraordinary swimmers. Both competed at the highest level.

Both represented the same country in the same sport during a similar era.

Both had world-class results.

But their earning power, brand deals, endorsement opportunities, and visibility were radically different.

Why?

Their results were comparable.

Their reach was not.

That is why reach matters so much.

Reach is not vanity

Mission-driven messengers sometimes resist this.

They think reach is shallow.

They think visibility means ego.

They think building a personal brand means chasing attention.

That is the wrong frame.

Reach is not the mission.

Reach helps the mission travel.

If you have a message that can help people, more people need to encounter it.

If you have expertise that solves a real problem, more people need to know you exist.

If your results are meaningful, they deserve to be discoverable.

Reach gives your work a chance to serve beyond the room you are already in.

Build the results and expand the reach

The goal is not empty visibility.

The goal is reputation.

That requires both sides of the formula.

You need results. Real proof.

Real outcomes.

Real service.

Real credibility.

Then you need reach.

Content.

Speaking.

Books.

Podcasts.

Social media.

Referrals.

Partnerships.

Searchability.

A digital footprint that makes your reputation easier to access.

When those work together, opportunity compounds.

People remember you.

People refer you.

People trust you faster.

People associate you with a specific result.

That is when a personal brand starts to become a business asset.

A simple next step

Ask yourself:

Do I need stronger results?

Or do I need more people to know about the results I already have?

Both are important.

But many experts stay stuck because they only work on one side of the formula.
