It’s a universal truth: everything we create begins with the same, simple process.
You think it, you speak it, you act on it, and then it happens.
I call this The Creation Principle of Integrity, a concept I introduced in my book Take the Stairs.
This principle is the reason why words matter.
It’s why what you tell yourself about yourself is more powerful than you might realize.
It’s no accident that the spoken word comes after thinking and before acting.
The act of speaking something out loud is the first moment an idea exists outside of your mind.
Whether it’s the beautiful hotel behind me, the camera I’m recording on, or the chair I’m sitting in—none of these things existed until someone thought about them, spoke about them, and acted on them.
The spoken word is the genesis of all creation.
It’s the catalyst that brings thoughts into reality.
And if that’s true, then it’s crucial to pay attention to what you’re saying—not just to others, but also to yourself.
Let me show you what I mean…
The Power of Your Words
If your words mark the start of creation, then your life is a direct result of what you’ve spoken into existence.
Whether you realize it or not, you’re continuously shaping your present and future with the things you say.
Think about it: the life you want is being created by the words you speak today.
So here’s the real question: What are you telling yourself about yourself?
I’m not even talking about what others say to you or how external influences (like the media or the books you read) impact you.
That’s a different conversation.
What I’m focused on here is your internal dialogue.
What do you believe to be true about yourself?
Because you believe what you hear most often.
And what you hear most often is what you tell yourself.
Would You Let Others Speak to Your Loved Ones This Way?
Here’s the heartbreaking truth: Many of you are saying things to yourself that you would NEVER let anyone say about the people you love.
If you’re a parent, think about your kids.
If you have a partner, imagine someone speaking to them the way you speak to yourself.
Imagine someone saying those same harsh, limiting words to your closest friends or family.
Would you stand for it?
Would you allow someone to call your child “stupid” or “insignificant”?
Would you tolerate someone dismissing your spouse’s ideas or voice?
Of course not! But here’s the twist—you let yourself talk to you this way all the time.
And it’s devastating.
For so many of us, this kind of negative self-talk is something we’ve gotten used to, something we don’t even notice anymore.
We’ve played these tapes in our heads for so long that they just feel true.
Thoughts like, “I’m not good enough,” or “My ideas don’t matter,” or “I’m always going to be broke,” sink in because they’re repeated so often.
Change Your Words, Change Your Life
This brings us to a pivotal point.
If you’re creating your reality through your words, then the solution is simple: change your words.
Speak to yourself with the same respect, love, and belief you’d offer your children, your spouse, or your closest friends.
Replace negative, self-limiting thoughts with affirmations of your own value and potential.
I’m not talking about being positive for the sake of positivity.
I’m talking about creating the life you want by speaking it into existence.
Here’s what I want you to take away: Your words are powerful.
They are the foundation of your life and the blueprint of your future.
So be intentional with them.

If You Remember Nothing Else, Remember This
Think about the way you talk to yourself.
Would you allow others to treat your loved ones the way you treat yourself?
If the answer is no, then it’s time to flip the script.
Remember, you are constantly creating the person you’ll become and the life you’ll live through the words you speak to yourself.
Words are powerful.
They are the start of every great idea, every achievement, every meaningful connection.
So choose your words wisely and speak life into your ambitions.
After all, it’s not about what’s true—it’s about what you hear most often.
Make sure what you hear empowers you.
