Improving Self-Discipline & How to Do Things You Don’t Want to Do – Part 4

Should-Head (2)

When faced with that daily dilemma of doing the things we know we should be doing (i.e. Take the Stairs) and giving way to the seemingly easier route most of us lose the battle before we even get started.

We allow our mind to pollute our thinking with questions like:
– “Should I even bother doing this?”
– “Should I even try to pull this off?”
– “Should I do this now or should I do this later?”

You end up becoming what I like to call…a “Should-head.”

Instead, in those pivotal moments create “how” questions like:
– “How can I pull this off?”
– “How can I make this happen?”
– “How can I get this done now so I don’t have to do it later?”

Asking yourself the question how helps assume you past the point of the decision of whether or not to do it. Instead, it immediately activates your creativity into finding a solution to the problem which moves you productively forward.

And what I’ve noticed about my own head is that if I’m not consciously choosing the right questions to ask myself, I’m almost always unconsciously choosing the wrong ones.

Don’t be a “Should-head”.
