Strategies for Improving Your Self Discipline and Your Life
Rory Vaden talks about the 7 steps to achieving true success and his new book Take the Stairs on Fox & Friends:
Some have said that motivation is a mystery.
They’ve said that there is no explanation why two men of similar background and of equal talent and skill will move down 2 completely separate paths in life.
But there is no mystery here.
If you are not motivated…
You either don’t have a crystal clear vision of what you want for your life
Or
You don’t see the connection of how what you’re doing today will help get you there.
The amount of your motivation is directly proportionate to the clarity of your vision. The amount of your endurance is directly proportionate to the strength of the connection your sacrifices have to your vision.
It is always and only one of those two things.
Most people suck at creating vision for themselves. Which is why job #1 for any type of leader or coach is to clarify the vision a person wants and to demonstrate the correlation of the sacrifices it will take to get there.
My pal David Avrin told me when I was young, “we spend years of our lives going through the motions of whatever is right in front of us and we spend merely minutes thinking about what we really want.”
You either don’t see the vision or you don’t see the connection.
Which is it?

In 2004, I presented my Employing Generation Why keynote speech to about 300 sales managers of Southwestern, the renowned educational book publisher and distributor headquartered in Nashville, TN. With a 150-year history of getting top-quality college students to forgo their entire summer vacation to sell books door-to-door on a commission-only basis, Southwestern is unlike any company I have ever heard of or worked with, and they are remarkably effective in building core work ethic values in the emerging workforce…
